Application of Alumina Ceramic Tiles in Conveying Pipelines

Alumina ceramic tiles are widely used in conveying pipelines across the power, mining, metallurgy, chemical, and building materials industries. These pipelines are continuously exposed to particle erosion, abrasive media wear, airflow impact, and acid or alkali corrosion. Ordinary carbon steel and alloy steel pipelines are highly prone to wear-through, perforation, aging, and damage. This not only increases equipment maintenance costs and causes material loss through leakage, but can also interrupt continuous production line operation. As a high-performance wear-resistant protective material, alumina ceramic tiles offer ultra-high hardness, excellent wear resistance, corrosion resistance, and high-temperature resistance. They have become a core solution for wear protection in industrial conveying pipelines, providing targeted protection for different wear points and significantly extending pipeline service life.

Key Application Areas and Scenarios in Conveying Pipelines
Wear rates vary greatly across different sections of industrial conveying pipelines. Elbows, tees, and reducer sections—where flow changes direction or velocity—are high-wear areas, while straight sections generally wear more evenly. Alumina ceramic tiles enable targeted, zoned protection to address the specific operating challenges of each section.

1. Pipeline Elbows (Core Application Area)
Elbows are the most severely worn parts in material conveying systems. As material flows through an elbow, inertia creates high-speed impact and turbulent erosion. Ordinary carbon steel elbows often wear through within weeks to months, making them a major weak point in pipeline maintenance. By fully bonding alumina ceramic tiles to the inner wall of an elbow, a high-strength wear-resistant protective layer can be formed to resist material impact and wear. This extends elbow service life from a few months to 5–8 years and eliminates frequent elbow damage and material leakage. It is widely used in pulverized coal conveying, tailings conveying, sand and gravel conveying, dust collection ducts, and similar applications.

2. Straight Pipe Sections
In long-distance conveying, straight pipe sections mainly experience steady abrasive wear. Although the wear rate is lower than in elbows, continuous operation can still cause wall thinning and localized depressions. For moderately worn straight sections, alumina ceramic tiles can be installed with full coverage or in an intermittent pattern. For lightly worn conditions, localized tile reinforcement can be used. The smooth surface of the ceramic tiles also helps reduce friction between the material and the pipe wall, lowering conveying energy consumption. At the same time, it helps prevent materials such as pulverized coal, dust, and slurry from adhering and scaling, maintaining stable pipeline throughput.

3. Tees, Crosses, and Reducer Pipes
Tees and crosses involve flow splitting and merging, which creates a turbulent flow field and high localized erosion. In reducer pipes, abrupt changes in pipe diameter cause a sudden increase in material velocity, making concentrated wear highly likely. These irregular pipeline structures are complex, and cast-in-place monolithic wear materials often fit poorly. Modular alumina ceramic tiles, however, can be flexibly assembled and adjusted in size to conform closely to the inner walls of irregular pipelines. This provides complete protection without dead zones and solves the problems of rapid localized wear and uneven service life in irregular pipelines.

4. Pipeline Inlets, Outlets, and Downstream of Valves
At pipeline feed inlets, discharge outlets, and downstream of valves, material velocity is high and airflow turbulence is strong, resulting in concentrated particle impact. These are wear-prone areas. Installing thicker alumina ceramic tiles in these locations strengthens local wear protection, prevents premature failure at connection points, improves overall pipeline operating stability, and reduces the probability of leakage at connections and unplanned downtime.
